Spring

For those of you who are good gardeners, spring means planting a garden. True gardeners just love it. I have to admit, I am not a gardener. I wish I were, but I am afraid of worms and I don’t like to get my hands dirty either.

Nevertheless, if you are a good gardener, my prediction is that you will be a priceless commodity in the future. If you have a big enough garden, you can plant for the neighborhood and make money while doing it, especially if you are an organic gardener. Look into who own the food businesses in the US. And have you noticed like 11 food processing plants have burned down since the beginning of the year.

Some years back I said, we will once again have victory gardens. And I still believe it. I have learned to appreciate good fresh organic food. I want to keep my body healthy with organic food. If you are a gardener, there are a lot of people like me. Perhaps you can do this as a side business? Or just be helpful to your friends. I’m afraid that in this decade, food will get scarce. Plan for your family.

When I was a kid on the farm, my Grandpa planted a field full of corn, a field full of green beans, and a field full of black-eyed peas. We canned beans and peas. We made it a family affair. My aunts and cousins would come. We ate all winter on those vegetables. If you know how to can, don’t get rid of your canning skills. And some prefer freezers. Let’s think ahead and plan for our food survival.

Suffering

As I look at the patients I’ve served over the years, one thing stands out.  As far as health, we are not all created equal.  And on top of that, sometimes we have accidents, illnesses or experiences that negatively affect our health.

If you are having a day where you feel good, enjoy your day to the fullest.  No one gets out of life without some knocks.   I am never more thankful for my health than right after I have been sick.  After a sickness, I feel so grateful to have my health back.  Life goes on and perhaps a month later, I don’t wake up thinking how grateful I am to feel well.  At that point, my days of being sick are a dim memory.

Summer is coming.  Let’s appreciate every day!

Hypertension

Dr. McDougall is a medical doctor who recognized early on in his practice that food is very important.  That recognition changed his practice and his life.  He is my age and has had a very different career than the average medical doctor.  He made this video on hypertension and how he treats it.  There are so many people with hypertension problems.  And doctors do not have the time to explain, at length the issue.  And let’s face it, taking a drug is the easy way out.  But it isn’t the healthy way out.  I like this video because Dr. McDougall tells you what works and what does not work, even what medication works and doesn’t.  If you or your loved one has high blood pressure, please watch this video.  Not all doctors know the information he does so it is an opportunity to learn something new.

What do you need to feel better?

Have you ever noticed that many natural products to help you feel better are sold through multi-level marketing?  Have you ever wondered why?  It is because word of mouth, by people who have been helped with a product, is the best way to sell.  If you think about it, what company is going to sell you something that is natural and will keep you from suffering needlessly?  Don’t expect the pharmaceutical companies to find something that you buy once and use over and over to help you.  Pharmaceutical companies want you to have to buy it again and again, every month.  There are so many great products out there.  I’ve shown you a few in pervious health tips. What do you need to feel better?  You can always ask me at your next visit.

Teeth

When was the last time you saw your dentist? I do not miss my every 6 month check up with my dentist. Why? Because I have had more than my share of dental problems and I want to avoid move. If you have put off dental cleanings or exams because of the pandemic, please make those appointments today. Taking care of our teeth is so important. Lots of hidden health problems are in the teeth.

Staying healthy gets harder and harder in our toxic world. Do yourself a favor and make that dental appointment. It is my least favorite appointment, but also one I won’t miss.

And in the meantime, don’t forget to brush and floss. And if you have used my Oral Supreme, you might be as addicted to it as I am. It is still, by far, my most favorite supplement. I had sensations in my teeth sometimes, and using the oral supreme eliminated those sensations. Why am I so happy? The oral supreme kills bacteria. And that will help me keep my oral cavity a healthy place for teeth to be!! So, go brush! And don’t forget to floss.

Vitamin D

I have taken vitamin D supplements, but I know the sunlight is a much better way to get vitamin D.  What about far-infrared and near-infrared rays?  Do you know about them?  I am including this video today.  At the end he says he feels that everyone should know the contents of this video.  At least I want my patients and friends and family to know about the gift of sunlight.

Listen and learn.

Posture

How important is posture?  It is at the top of the list in what we need to work on every day.

So many things are tied to posture, especially breathing.  You can’t get a good breath with poor posture.

To get a little more into posture, watch people.  What is the victim posture, the self-assured posture, the I’m depressed posture, or the I’m ready for the world posture?  Our posture is one way of communicating to others.

Most importantly, poor posture leads to all kinds of health problems.

If you are walking through a door, bend your elbows and put your hand to the side of the door frame and slowly walk through.  This pulls your shoulders back.  It stretches your chest muscles which are often contracted.  Just that one move can be helpful.  Watch these guys do it. They do it without the doorframe, but for me, the doorframe is a good prompt.

Cancer

Last week, the health tip was about fasting for weight loss. But what if you have cancer? Most people think you shouldn’t fast if you have cancer. But if you are taking chemo, they have found that fasting will keep you from having all the negative side effects like vomiting and hair loss. In fact, some people feel really good. I wouldn’t say they feel good the first time they do it because, let’s face it, we want to eat. There is as much of a mental/emotional aspect to it, of course. What they have found is if you fast 2 days before chemo, the day of chemo and two days after chemo, you don’t have the negative effects.

This could be used so successfully, but it takes awhile for information to get to the doctor’s office. At this point, it appears, it needs to be the patient telling the oncologist how fasting supports chemo. My favorite video about it is long, but so worth it. Dr. Valter Longo did the original research and talks about it in this video, which is one of my favorite videos. What a fabulous finding he has provided our world with! I expect to hear more from him in the future.

Better yet is to protect yourself from cancer by fasting, right? Here is another video by Jason Fung talking about how fasting can prevent cancer. Of course, prevention is the best medicine. And remember fasting doesn’t have to be 5 days, or 3 days. It can be 16 hours.

People fighting cancer have a big job. Let’s be helpful and share this information with them. Don’t worry as to whether they do it, that is up to them. Let’s just share our knowledge.

Dieting

Almost everyone has dieted at some point. Of course, there are a few who no matter what they eat, they do not gain weight. Their body seems to make the adjustments to handle it.

But if you have dieted, have you gained the weight back? It is so very frustrating isn’t it?

If you gained your weight back, did you blame yourself? We have so much self-blaming and self-shaming in our society. Today I have a video for you that explains that it isn’t your fault and gives you a way out, if you want it. Dr. Fung is a kidney specialist and he specifically works with diabetics. He is not your typical doctor, which means he has something different to offer. I love his message and I hope you do too!! I really appreciate him stepping up to the plate and telling things as they are!

Nitric Oxide

Patients have asked me about taking nitric oxide. Nitric oxide could be very important for health in your blood vessels. It relaxes the muscles in the blood vessels so they can expand. So it can lower blood pressure by increasing blood flow.

I’ve had nitric oxide in my office and tested people on it and they didn’t often test well to it so I quit trying. I thought well, maybe we could get it through food. And then one day I was watching Dr. Mercola’s daily video. He was in the gym and demonstrating how to get a “nitric acid dump” from exercise. It is one of those exercises I have reintroduced time and time again simply because I forget about it.

Why watch it? It can help keep you from having a stroke and even dementia.

Please listen to what he has to say about it especially if you have and blood flow issues, even erectile dysfunction.

Watch this video and get your nitric oxide through pretty easy exercise.
