What About Fasting?

I have a video today that will, hopefully, enlighten you as it did me.  The video is about fasting, but before you leave the page, know that studies have been done with people are are taking chemo.  The studies show that our bodies have been programmed, genetically, to help us out when we are fasting.  Cancer cells will be weaker while normal cells will be stronger.

But no one wants to give money to provide studies on fasting.  Sometimes we just can’t take the easy route, can we?  Fasting was helpful to mice and helpful to people. That shows that over time, people have been programmed to allow fasting to help us with disease processes or sickness.  More study needs to be done with other disease like RH, MS, and many others.

Today’s health tip is really simply to let you know what is going on in this area.  If you haven’t ever fasted, it will be enlightening. We are so afraid of not having food! Yep that is me!

One woman in the video was not feeling very well on day 4 of her fast.  And when she got up on day 5, she felt so good. This video is informative and I hope you will watch it and then email me telling me how much you enjoyed it!!

Your Knees

We are in the midst of winter.   People have been getting sick right and left.  If you can’t shake your coughing and feeling sick, come in and see me!  I’ll help you.

The knees are so important. I probably don’t have anyone disagreeing.  When you complain that the inside of your knee hurting, that is one of the first indications I have that you are stressing yourself out too much.  Your adrenals can’t keep up with you.  Of course, that is when the patient reports no falls or injuries to the knee.  The pain just came on.

So please beware of your inner knees. The ligament is trying to hold your knee in the right place, but it needs some help.  Slow down and rest.  Relaxation is restorative.  Americans tend to go, go, go.  Get to bed by 10 pm at night.  If you are drinking coffee, monitor the amount.

If you don’t pay attention and get a little help for the knee when it needs it, you are setting your knee up for injury!  Don’t be that person.

Have a great January!

Nature or Nurture?

As we visit with family this holiday season, please remember that the CDC says genetics only account for 10% of diseases.  I hear people say, “well my mom had this disease and I am afraid I will.”  Or something like, “she is bound to be ___ with her genetics.”  That is simply not so.  Ninety percent of disease is due to environmental issues.  This is not my idea, but backed up by research.

I like that because we can control our environment a lot more than we can control our genetics.   Likely culprits in the environment are virus, bacteria, parasites, heavy metals, all kinds of environmental chemicals like pesticides and herbicides.  Don’t forget the psychological stress of difficulties in life or the stress of poverty.  The list gets longer with dietary indiscretions and lifestyle issues, such as exercise.  It becomes clear that there are many ways we can help ourselves and that, in fact, the choices we make are more important than the choices we can’t make:  our genetics.

Enjoy your family and know that you are creating your own future health by your today choices.  If we believe we are destined to a physical condition, that in itself is stressful.

Brain Health

Think back when you were a kid.  Did you know any adults who had Alzheimer’s?  If you are even close to my age, the answer might be no.  I grew up with grandparents, so I was probably around more older people than most.  I did not know anyone who had a bad case of dementia, no matter what the diagnosis.

Of all the problems of old age, most of my patient’s share my concern:  I don’t want to lose my marbles.  I don’t want to live like that.  My patients tell me they don’t either.  But I notice more and more nursing homes.  More and more problems with memory.

There is seldom one cause. The causes add up and now we have cities full of nursing homes and care centers.  The things I do for my health, I do for the long game:  old age.  I know many older people who are vibrant, and I tell them, “You are my model.”

To stay vibrant, we need to do what we can to insure brain health.  Here is an articlethat nails one of the causes.  And have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!

The Holidays and Food

The holidays are great fun entertaining or going to parties.  People tend to meet at restaurants more these days than at home. I hear so many complaints about “all of the food.”

I understand.  That is why the first of the year is known for dieting. As my aunt used to say, “I’m going to go home and I’m going to lose some weight or I’m going to know the reason why.” We always laughed because we knew why.

Remember, put your attention on the people, on your relationship, on the love you have for those with whom you are dining.  The food isn’t that important.  There will always be more delicious food.   What if you don’t eat this piece right now?  No worries, there is always more.

I don’t expect perfection from myself if regards to food unless I am sick.  If I leave a restaurant or someone’s house and my tummy doesn’t feel too full, I’m quite pleased.  May you, and your tummy, enjoy this holiday experience.

CHOICE

Today we have some choices for care that we didn’t have when I was a child.

If you are thinking you could be a candidate for a knee replacement or a shoulder replacement, you have more choices in most circumstances now.  Have you ever considered a stem cell injection?  Or a shot of protein rich plasma, called PRP?  When I weigh a shot, which is how stem cells are given, or a surgery, I think the shot is a great deal less invasive.  Yes, it is possible it won’t work.  But a replacement might not work either.  After a stem cell injection, you can still have a replacement if you need it. The only glitch is that insurance will not pay for stem cells or PRP and they are pricey.

There are many complaints about the costs of health care (I call sickness care).  And yet, a great deal of the costs could be eliminated if people were given stem cell and PRP shots instead of replaced parts.  You see, the powers that be don’t really want to decrease the health care bills.  “They” say stem cells and PRP  are experimental.  How long do they have to be done before they are no longer classified as experimental? Is it possible that big pharma does not want them considered regular care?  I mean, how much medicine would you need with a shot?  Think about it!

Avoiding Cancer!

I doubt there is any adult who hasn’t been touched by cancer.  Perhaps a grandparent or an aunt or an uncle has had the diagnosis.  Who doesn’t know someone who has had cancer? We live in a world in which cancer thrives.  Our food has problems.  Our environment has problems.  But that isn’t what I want to talk to you about today.

If a cancer diagnosis arrives, what do you do?  Of course, it is always better to avoid a cancer diagnosis, but how?  I am giving you a link today to The Truth About Cancer docu-series.  Their mission is to educate, expose and eradicate cancer once and for all.  I’ve previously seen it and I’m sure there is new information. You can watch a segment each day or you can buy it and watch it at your leisure.

If you don’t have cancer and want to avoid it, you can learn a best approach by watching the series.  If you have cancer and want information on a holistic approach, then listen and learn.  You will be given much information.  No one uses all of it.  You can pick and choose what works for you.  Knowledge is power!

Blanket Time

My patients are the best! Sometimes they tell me about a product that they love, and I want to share it with others.  Have you heard about the weighted blankets?  I know they are often used on pets and on babies, but hey, adults are using them too.  Why would you want to use one?  Here are some of the symptoms that the blankets claim to help:   anxiety, panic attacks, stress and tension, insomnia, hot flashes, PTSD, restless leg syndrome, symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, ADD, ADHD, autism, any sensory disorder.

I don’t know how much they would help.  I know my patient said it has helped her hot flashes.  And if you have ever had a hot flash, you would grab that weighted blanket in a hot minute.  It seems so counter-intuitive that you would use a blanket when you have a hot flash, but she says it works.  Don’t try to take away her blanket!

I have a gold standard way of assessing whether I think something is worth trying.  If you don’t have to swallow it (you know I’m very particular in that regard), and it won’t hurt you, why not try it.  A blanket won’t hurt you.  And if it has the possibility of helping, that is fabulous.  I’ll let you in on a secret:  my patient ordered her blanket from weightingcomforts.com.  I have no connection with the company, but if you have any of the symptoms above, and try it, please let me know how you like it!

Mercury in the Teeth

In our struggle for health, one major concern is the mouth, specifically the teeth.  Mercury is a neurotoxin.  Do you really want that in your mouth?  There are many other options these days.  Other countries have mercury free dentistry, but we don’t. Holistic pratitioners are struggling to get mercury out of our mouths.  At least don’t put any more mercury in your mouth.  Alternatives are available.  Use them.

But please, don’t take my word for it.  Go to youtube  and see for yourself what the mercury looks like coming off the teeth.  You continue breathing while you are getting your teeth worked on.  You breathe that gas.

You are bombarded with chemicals on a daily basis.  Many you cannot avoid, but this one you can.  To better understand mercury-free dentistry and the difference it is making around the world, go to the article on Dr. Mercola’s site.
